Tear Through Filler FAQ

Although micro needles can be used but Dr Wafaa is a high advocate of the Cannula technique. This is where the Tear Trough Dermal Filler is injected into the Tear Trough via a microcannula. An insertion point is made using a small needle around the cheekbone area so that the microcannula can be fed through. This means that tear trough dermal filler can be injected more precisely and carefully into the delicate area under the eye. The cannula technique allows for less chance of bruising and is generally pain-free. More importantly, the cannula technique is much safer especially around this highly sensitive area.

Step One – Consultation and Consent

It is important to understand that, whilst dermal fillers are not prescription only medicines, the medication needed to dissolve fillers, hyaluronidase, is. Additionally, the anatomy of the face is complex, it is advisable the you only allow medically qualified practitioners carry out filler treatments.

On arrival at Dr Wafaa Clinic in Reading , Dr Wafaa El Mouhebb will complete a detailed personal details and medical history form with you.

She will discuss your medical history and clearly highlight the realistic, expected result of the treatment.

She will also describe any potential side effects and ask whether you understand the summary of the treatment you are about to receive.

This process should take as long as you need and allow you to weigh up the benefits against the risks.

You will sign and date your completed forms and a consent form.

Step Two – The Tear Trough Treatment

Your treatment will take around 30 – 60 minutes.

The first part of your treatment will be administering an anaesthetic to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

Dr Wafaa will remove any makeup and sterilize the area to be treated.

An anaesthetic cream will then be applied to the area at least 20 minutes or so prior to injection. This helps to numb the area to be treated and reduces pain when the needle/cannula is inserted into the skin.

Dr Wafaa will either use a micro-needle to inject small amounts of filler directly to the under-eye area, avoiding the network of blood vessels. This allows precise placement of filler.

Alternatively, she  may use a cannula with an entry from just above the cheekbone to the under-eye area to distribute the filler. This is often safer and can result in less bruising.

Between injections, she will manipulate, mould and massage the filler, ensuring that is it evenly distributed in the correct place before it sets.

Step Three – The Check-Up

Dr Wafaa will offer you  a free check-up, four weeks after your treatment.

This allow her  to check that the dose she administered was appropriate for the agreed outcome and that you are happy with your treatment and if you need any further treatment.

Step Four – The Repeat Treatment

Depending on how quickly you metabolise the filler and which product you were treated with, you will require a repeat treatment 9-12 months after your initial treatment.

The type of filler will be decided after the consultation and assessment of the overall result needed to achieve. Each of these fillers has a specificity that can target a special problem in the tear trough and its use will be decided on after the consultation. Most of these fillers contain local anaesthetic but also some of them also contain vitamins, antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients that help minimise dark circles.

At Dr Wafaa Clinic in Reading , Dr Wafaa uses only FDA approved Filler for specific use in Tear trough like Teoxane, Belotero.

In the week before the treatment, avoid taking aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor), ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements as these may increase bleeding and bruising.

Kindly ensure to inform us of any prescription medication you are taking.

Tear trough fillers help address loss of volume, dark circles and crepey skin.

However you must be candidate for the procedure to get the most of its benefits. This can be assessed at the time of consultation by Dr Wafaa.

In general,You may not be an ideal candidate for Tear Trough Filler if you suffer from:

  • Large herniated eye bags
  • Excessively loose skin (festoons)
  • Puffy/swollen eyes

However there is other alternative treatments then that can be discussed with Dr Wafaa.

Most patients treated will retain their results for 6-18 months. However, The exact length of how long a tear trough filler will last will depend on the individual. Factors such as age, skin type, metabolism rate, activity levels, lifestyle etc all affect the length of the treatment.

Tear Trough fillers are  dermal fillers formed of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the body, which makes adverse reactions to it unlikely.

When injected into the skin, dermal filler plumps out wrinkles and lines, instantly filling scars and adding volume and shape where necessary.

Tear troughs are all about techniques to treat in a natural, subtle way with no complications.

Tear Trough Filler is injected above the bone, but below the muscle, whilst staying clear of the network of arteries and veins in the area.

Dr Wafaa has more than 12 years experience treating complex cases of tear trough but also can treat any complications that arise from displaced fillers.

During tear trough assessment a thorough consultation and examination will be done to assess the region needed to be treated including the orbital skin and the supporting areas including cheeks and temple. It would be advisable then to have skincare treatment for the area of rehydration or even sometimes anti-wrinkle injection in order to improve the overall appearance of the tear trough region.
