Lip Filler Overview

As we age, lips naturally lose volume and plumpness. This is due to the overall decrease in collagen and elastin that occurs as we age. Collage and Elastin are the proteins in our skin which provide structure, support and elasticity.

In addition with age, there is  a natural change in the shape of the lips, means that our lips get thinner and smaller as we get older.

In the correct, highly skilled, highly qualified hands, lips can be enhanced and rejuvenated beautifully and subtly, balancing and harmonising the lips with the face, and ensuring you look great from all angles including profile.

Placed in the right place dermal fillers help restore lost volume, and can be used to redefine and reshape lips. However it is preferable to built up Lip Volumes in stages to get the desired natural outcome. So it may be that you will need to  have smaller volumes of filler added over a period of months rather than a 1 time large volume added.

Fillers used in lips are hyaluronic acid-based fillers which usually last 6-12 months.

Many dermal filler products are available with the addition of 0.3% lidocaine combined with the hyaluronic acid gel in the syringe providing instant relief from pain upon injection . However, for you  to feel as comfortable as possible,  you will likely be offered a topical numbing cream .

Lip fillers can be reversed!!There are products available which can dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers and are prescription medicines and must be performed by an expert prescriber. So You may stay relaxed, it is a reversible procedure!

At Dr Wafaa Clinic in Reading, the lip enhancement technique have been specifically developed to enhance the natural pattern of your lips, helping you achieve more defined, beautifully shaped, bigger lips. There are many lip fillers on the market that are substandard in terms of ingredients and quality. At Dr Wafaa Clinic, we only use the most advanced temporary lip filler range available. In addition your treatment will be performed by Dr Wafaa El Mouhebb , a Highly qualified, Worldwide trained Cosmetic Physician who have years of expertise in her pocket to offer you the best result you would like to achieve.

How Does It Work?

Dermal fillers used in the UK contain hyaluronic acid.Hyaluronic acid, when injected into the skin, has hydrophilic (water-loving) tendencies. This cause it to attract water, thus filling out wrinkles and scars and adding volume and shape where necessary.

As it is a naturally occurring substance within the body, adverse reactions to it are unlikely.

There is a  variety of techniques to administer fillers in a subtle way to reshape lips, add lost volume to ageing lips, treat lipstick lines and philtral columns. This can be achieved using Needle or Micro-cannula.

Your  treatment will be tailored according to your specific lip and facial anatomy and your desired result with the idea of creating a natural looking set of lips.

Does Lip Fillers Hurt?

Lips are very sensitive, so we apply a local anaesthetic before your treatment to numb the area. There may still be some discomfort, if this is too great inform us and we will look to ease this as much as possible.

To note using micro-cannula are much less painful than Needle!

With her high expertise and worldwide qualifications, Dr Wafaa El Mouhebb has been able to gain experience in using micro-cannula in lip filler thus reducing pain , swelling and bruises after the procedure

Who Can Have Lip Filler?

At Dr Wafaa Clinic, due to ethical reasons we do have age limit policies with our injectable treatments. Due to the natural development of the face and muscles we have made the decision not to provide dermal or lip fillers to anyone below the age of 18.

What To Do Before Lip Filler Treatment?

In the week before the treatment, avoid taking aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor), ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements as these may increase bleeding and bruising.

Kindly ensure to inform us  of any prescription medication you are taking.

Your Consultation...In Details...

Step One – Consultation and Consent

It is important to understand that, whilst dermal fillers are not prescription only medicines, the medication needed to dissolve fillers, hyaluronidase, is. Additionally, the anatomy of the face is complex, it is advisable that you only allow medically qualified practitioners carry out filler treatments.

On arrival at our clinic in Reading, Dr Wafaa will complete a detailed personal details and medical history form with you.She will then discuss your medical history , the procedure, any potential side effects, and clearly highlight the realistic, expected result of the treatment. This process should take as long as you need and allow you to weigh up the benefits against the risks.

You will then sign and date your completed  consent form.

Photos of the area to be treated will be taken for records and comparison later on with the after result. These Photos might be shared on Social Media for teaching and marketing purpose, but your consent will be taken prior to that.If you don’t prefer the photos to be released, the images will be kept confidential for medical records only.

Step Two – Your  Treatment

Your treatment will take around 15-30 minutes.

The first part of your treatment will be removal of  any makeup and sterilisation of  the area to be treated with an antibacterial/alcohol wipe.

The area to be treated will then be numbed using  an anaesthetic cream  to the area 20 minutes or so prior to injection. This helps to numb the area to be treated and reduces pain when the needle is inserted into the skin. The anaesthetic effects of numbing creams like EMLA last around 30-60 minutes.

Dr Wafaa  will use a micro-needle or a cannula to inject small amounts of filler into the lips. A variety of techniques can be used, depending on the filler being used and area being treated.

After the filler has been injected, She  may manipulate and massage the filler to ensure it is evenly distributed and correctly placed.

Step Three – The Check-Up

You will be offered a free check-up, two weeks after your treatment. This allows Dr Wafaa to check that the dose they administered was appropriate for the agreed outcome and that the healing process is smooth.

Final Step – The Repeat Treatment

Depending on how quickly you metabolise the filler and which product you were treated with, you will require a repeat treatment 6-24 months after your initial treatment.

You will  be advised regarding when you may require a repeat treatment.

Are There Any Lip Filler Side Effects?

As with most treatments where injections are involved, typical side effects of lip fillers include slight swelling, redness, tenderness and bleeding around the points where the needle or cannula was inserted. But, these should only last for a few days.

Had 1 ml Juvaderm lip filler last week and am over the moon with the results.I’ve had my lips done twice before in different places and found the process extremely painful, however, my experience with Dr Wafaa was almost completely pain-free.She is so knowledgeable and lovely, I cannot recommend her enough!
