Our Smile Line Fillers in Reading

Smile Line refer to the Nasolabial fold or deep crease that run from either side of the nose down towards the corners of the mouth.

This crease becomes more noticeable as part of the natural ageing process.  Also Known as mouth to nose line, Nasolabial folds are a result of:

Fat loss from the cheeks,

Reduction in skin volume and elasticity and loss of bony support

Also Repeated smiling or having a “big smile” may result in permanent, deep creases in this area.

On the other side sad line or what is known as Marionette lines (corner of the mouth) are long vertical lines or crease that traverse from the corners of the lips to the chin and Jaw.

Smile Line Fillers FAQ

Step One – Consultation and Consent

It is important to understand that, whilst dermal fillers are not prescription only medicines, the medication needed to dissolve fillers, hyaluronidase, is. Additionally, the anatomy of the face is complex, it is advisable that you only allow medically qualified practitioners carry out filler treatments.

On arrival at our clinic in Reading, Dr Wafaa will complete a detailed personal details and medical history form with you. She will then discuss your medical history , the procedure, any potential side effects, and clearly highlight the realistic, expected result of the treatment. This process should take as long as you need and allow you to weigh up the benefits against the risks.

You will then sign and date your completed consent form.

Photos of the area to be treated will be taken for records and comparison later on with the after result. These Photos might be shared on Social Media for teaching and marketing purpose, but your consent will be taken prior to that.If you don’t prefer the photos to be released, the images will be kept confidential for medical records only.

Step Two – Your Treatment

Your treatment will take around 30 minutes.

The first part of your treatment will be removal of any makeup and sterilisation of the area to be treated with an antibacterial/alcohol wipe.

The area to be treated will then be numbed using an anaesthetic cream to the area 20 minutes or so prior to injection. This helps to numb the area to be treated and reduces pain when the needle is inserted into the skin. The anaesthetic effects of numbing creams like EMLA last around 30-60 minutes.

Dr Wafaa will use a micro-needle or a cannula to inject small amounts of filler into the Nasolabial & Marionette lines. A variety of techniques can be used, depending on the filler being used and area being treated.

After the filler has been injected, She may manipulate and massage the filler to ensure it is evenly distributed and correctly placed.

Step Three – The Check-Up

You will be offered a free check-up, two weeks after your treatment. This allows Dr Wafaa to check that the dose they administered was appropriate for the agreed outcome and that the healing process is smooth.

Final Step – The Repeat Treatment

Depending on how quickly you metabolise the filler and which product you were treated with, you will require a repeat treatment 12-18 months after your initial treatment.

You will be advised regarding when you may require a repeat treatment.

Most of the time, people get smile line filler treatment with hyaluronic acid in order to look like a younger version of themselves.

The nature of the treatment means that the filler should not change the shape of the face or any other aspect of the appearance in general.

Smile line filler treatment is designed to soften and smooth sharp superficial creases or provide deeper volume where appropriate to achieve a very natural result.

Again as Dr Wafaa says It is normal to have some degree of lines when we smile but this treatment aims to really minimise this while avoiding the risks of invasive facelift surgery.

At Dr Wafaa Clinic, due to ethical reasons we do have age limit policies with our injectable treatments.

Due to the natural development of the face and muscles we have made the decision not to provide dermal or lip fillers to anyone below the age of 18.

In the week before the treatment, avoid taking aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor), ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements as these may increase bleeding and bruising.

Kindly ensure to inform us of any prescription medication you are taking.

Smile line filler treatment with hyaluronic acid or what is known as dermal filler  is an exceptionally safe treatment if done by an experience Aesthetic Practitioner.

The treatment is designed to simply soften or smooth sharp superficial creases or provide deeper volume where appropriate to achieve a very natural result.

Dr Wafaa always say that it is normal to have some degree of lines when we smile but this treatment aims to really minimise this when it becomes deeper and more pronounced at rest , all  while avoiding the risks of invasive facelift surgery. This will give a more relaxed restful appearance of the face.

Smile line filler treatment with hyaluronic acid is designed to soften and smooth the lines or creases that look prominent even when you don’t smile.

The areas that are affected the most are the lines or folds that run from the side of the nose down to the corner of the mouth, known as nasolabial lines

and the lines that run down from the corners of the mouth toward the jawline, known as marionette lines.

If any of these areas are a problem area for you then smile line filler treatment could be an effective and safe option.

Dr Wafaa may use a combination of soft and medium thickness hyaluronic acid products to treat the smile lines depending on what have be causing the problem.

The amount of hyaluronic acid required for a smile line filler treatment varies from person to person.

In most cases, at least 1ml in total will be required to achieve a noticeable difference.

In cases where the smile lines are particularly severe, 2ml or treatment of other areas like cheeks may be required.

Dr Wafaa will advise you at your consultation of the best approach.

As with most treatments where injections are involved, typical side effects of nasolabial & marionette filler include slight swelling, redness, tenderness and bleeding around the points where the needle or cannula was inserted. But, these should only last for a few days.
